Walkhighlands

Hi folks, did this route the Sunday prior to the WH meet (when I gather some of you did it too) and got some alright photos.

In short, a near perfect winter's day: lots of fresh snow, some blue skies and absolute solitude - bar the wildlife.

Conditions were very initially very changeable but stabilised and just kept improving. Bitter, bitter northerly wind which necessitated goggles on the plateau. Axe/crampons not required, but snow shoes would have been handy.

It was just one of these inexpressible, happy-to-be-alive-sore-face days. Will let the pics do the talking.

Looks like a brilliant area, and as you say, the views and weather you were treated to were "...none too shabby"!!! Nothing beats that "happy-to-be-alive-sore-face" joy you get when it's like this.

I still have these to do, and after doing some winter walks this year, and looking at pics in reports like yours, I'm really torn between a necessarily short winter trip, or a longer one when the days are longer....

Yeah AK, luckily it's been a recurring theme for these hills, always seem to get the right conditions to do them justice.

Quite straightforward this, and just doable on a short winter's day.

Similarly torn between a festive trip north for possibly not much reward (MWIS outlook not promising) or holding off until way into the new year. Such a gamble when it's a near 1000-mile round trip.

WH Easter meet an unknown for me at the mo, might not be free till May. But should things change will try to get up and camp, if there's space (I gather this is a busy one).
