A good forecast for the Highlands this weekend, but an even better one for the Lowlands. And with low temperatures and a chilly wind blowing, us softy southerners opted for a long but straightforward stroll around Loch Leven (Kinross). The walk has several cafes dotted along it, and we chose to start with (a truly excellent) breakfast at Loch Leven's Larder on the north-west side, before heading clockwise around the loch with a diversion to the RSPB centre for lunch and their hides and trails. With all the food plus the admission to the RSPB site, the day ended up being a bit heavy on the wallet, but enjoyable nonetheless. Views of the loch are intermittent at best - there are long straight stretches through fields and woodland too, but at this time of year there was plenty of wildlife around to keep things interesting. We started walking at just after 10, getting back to the car park just as dusk was falling at 4pm or so (but that includes exploring the RSPB centre and having lunch there).
