Great stuff and well done for persevering after your sock and axe losses.

Great report, brilliant photos!

Some years ago I went up Sgurr Dearg via east ridge of Sgurr Bhan (marked only as point 947m on the OS map I think). A nice easy scramble. Descended via Sgurr Dearg's north ridge as per your ascent route, it really is a superb ridge with stunning views!

But the forestry jungle at the bottom...

Thanks GOB. But, as said above, nothing much to do with me: it was just a stunning day!

Indeed - and as you see, I truly had a belter of a day! No reports on your WH weekend wanderings???

Thanks. I did actually have some spare pairs of socks (the lost ones - now returned! - had sentimental value :D :?: :shifty: . Axe now replaced.

Many thanks HMHT. But any merit in the photos can only be attributed to the wonderful day.

Hmm! - I can imagine you had some fun trying to get through the jungle... :D

another great report Altenacker. I tried these hills in the early 70's by Poucher's route - now there's a name to conjure with :) - which is much the same as yours - and got stuck in the trees. But you can avoid them altogether (on the ascent) by walking S on the track from E. Ballachulish and climbing the E ridge of Sgur Bhan. It does have a bit of scrambling - people have been known to get stuck  - and I guess with snow it could be bit tricky, but we managed to to get our dog up it in 1987. Not sure how but there's a pic of him on the summit.

 Actually I didn't consume that much the previous night, so I failed the "good night" test

Yep, "gorgeous" is pretty well what I thought at the time (except in the forestry  ). It was meant to be hands, but that's what frostbite does to you... :D

dogplodder wrote:Fabulous - and I've still got these to look forward to! :D

Many thanks DP. Just avoid the forestry, order up fine weather, and you can't help but enjoy them!

Thanks very much PMSD. I did look up the "official" route after getting back, and this is one occasion where I might have been better served in checking route descriptions before doing it.

No piccy of the dog... :D

These are great photos, thanks for uploading! Certainly a lot better than my bad phone pictures! These are two great mountains, looks like a nice route- I came up from Ballachulish village when I did them and it was a long heathery haul on to the ridge.
