More than just accountants!

Apologies for the cheesy title but there aren’t many Munro names which lend themselves particularly well to a walk report title! As you might have guessed, the majority of our group was made up of accountants with a love for the Scottish mountains.
Our long anticipated trip to Crianlarich had finally arrived – we were staying at the excellent Ochils mountaineering club’s Inverardran cottage for a long weekend of winter walking. Last year, our trip wasn’t quite so lucky with the weather but we managed to get out nevertheless and everyone had such a good time that we decided to repeat the trip this year. A few new additions to our team this year and we were raring to go!
An advance party of me, Tom and Christine decided to take Friday off and we went up Beinn Dorain and Beinn an Dothaidh. A lovely sunny walk up and then some light mist over the summits, an excellent winter walk to kick off the weekend.
The rest of the guys arrived on Friday night and on Saturday we went up Sgiath Chuil.

It was a bit cloudy with a cold breeze but it stayed dry all day and it was good to practice with our crampons and ice axes. Unfortunately, Will wasn’t feeling great on Saturday night and decided not to walk on Sunday – a real shame given how the weather turned out. Will very kindly stayed around since he was driving the others back after our walk on the Sunday.
Ben More and Stob Binnein were our targets for Sunday. There was a little drizzle first thing – had the forecasters got it wrong? As we climbed up the steep slopes however, the cloud started to break and the views just kept getting better and better (especially with Brad’s Lord of the Rings soundtrack!)

The views from the top were stunning and there wasn’t a breath of wind – it was awesome to see the shadow of Ben More below us.

There were a couple of skiers ahead of us at Stob Binnein and it was really cool to watch them descending, you could even hear the sound of their skis on the snow it was so calm.

Although it was cold in the shade, it had warmed up in the sun and we were down to baselayers walking back down.
We decided to have an early supper before driving back – 5th time lucky and eventually we found somewhere to eat in Killin (everywhere closed up for winter!)
This was a very special day in the mountains and was the perfect way to round off an excellent weekend in the hills with fantastic company. Roll on next year! :D

Speaking as another of that ilk , quite a colourful bunch of accountants there - not what you'd expect from viewing the monty python sketch  - cheers :)

Interesting looking at the snow formations - things have hardly changed in 31 years..........
