Glencruitten House Woods

Just 2 miles east from Oban, following Glencruitten Road, you will find Glencruitten House Woods.
Turning into the estate grounds, take the turn straight left at the cross roads, where you'll find a car park after 50 meters on your right.

There are plenty of routes to take in this area, but the described one takes you across the estate through a variety of mature forest areas and some newly planted forest fields.

From the car park take the next turn to the left, where you are walking amidst large sitka spruce forest combined with some broadleaf forest in the wetter areas. Following this forest road you will find some very old Thuja conifers growing along the left side of the road, remainders of a planting from 100 years ago. Most of the older forest is planted around the 20's and 30's of the last century and are being harvested throughout the last decennia.

Before you turn right on another forest road, you can see a new forest on your right where different kinds of trees have been planted. Turning right you ascent the hill, where you will take a left turn after 120-140 meters, going up the hill.
Turn left at the end and turn right after another 100 meters.

This part takes you to a look-out over Oban, the bay and the surrounding islands as Kerrera, Mull and (the lighthouse of) Lismore. Depending what kind of weather, you'll have a different kind of view :D
Continuing this path you'll end up at the forest road, turn left and continue until this road back to the car park.
