Set of early with my brother in law Charlie and got to the car park at around 0810 and got a surprise to see Ben Vorlich covered in snow from about half way up. Thinking it was only a light covering we set off and reached the trig point after about 2 hours where we met another walker Ian and his dog Jake who joined us for the rest of our trek .The snow was a bit deeper than we first thought and the scramble up the Stuc was a bit of a worry but we took our time and made it to the safety of the cairn in one piece . Then it was over to the summit for a sandwich and to take in the cracking views before we headed back down the steep path and over the quite boggy stretch to where the paths meet and back to the car .Thanks again to Ian and jake for a tricky but very enjoyable day

Some good pics there - especially of the route on the prow - you were very brave attempting it in that weather! I'm a bit torn about those 2 - I want to do Ben Vorlich in snow as it would be great, but don't fancy that scramble and steepness up Stuc a' Chroin in snow and ice...

Hi MC

To the left of the prow as you face it there is a fairly step grassy gully which is fine if your in crampons. I have been up that way twice & found it far less nerve racking in snow. The gully holds the snow. I came down the prow path which was clear of snow, but i am sure you could down climb the gully in the right gear. It's maybe 20 meters (wrough guess)

Regards

Thanks Jonny - I do know about the gully but have to admit to having a sneaking ambition to have a crack at that buttress clamber :o :D

Nice report and pictures. The Prow looks very intimidating. I was up Vorlich a few weeks ago but skipped Stuc a chroin due to bad weather. I might go back this weekend weather permitting. Which route did you take?

The scramble was not to bad as the snow was still very soft ,no way would we have tried it if it had begun to ice over .If you go right at the last fence post i think the climb can be avoided but this looked quite steep also so we decided to go for it the hard way and after much debate we found the best way up.Charlie and i might be up for a hike this saturday so ian if your up for it let us know.As to which route we took ,we more or less followed the walk highlands route but it was very boggy on the way down not sure if it would be better to head back over ben our ,could be a bit drier :?
