Day one of a 2 day GHC weekend at the Bunkhouse at the Roundhouse at Uvie, near Newtonmore.

Creag Dubh is on my new list of Best Small Mountains in Scotland from the Cicerone guide of that name. I walked with Ian M and Ann from the Club, and, as the mountain was just behind the hostel, we duly set out on foot. We ignored the WH route and set out W along the A86 to pick up a hill track just past Auchmore. This track took us up onto the ridge where we eventually picked up the quite well worn track up the ridge and onto the summit. We were rewarded with excellent views all round.

To get back we reversed our route and then picked up another track that took us along the top of the crags heading towards the monument until we could get down by the usual route up, heading towards Creagdhubh Lodge. We eventually came out on the A86 only 3 or 400 metres from the track back to the hostel.

A short walk - so short that we ended up eating our packed lunch back at the hostel, and then had time to head into Aviemore for some retail therapy!
