With the weather forecast looking so good today and my first Sunday off for ages a walk had to be done! I picked out three walks all from Dufftown - a Corbett,a sub2000 walk and a low level walk so I could see how things were and decide when there which I'd go for. Driving along Ben Rinnes the corbett option came into view clear of snow. Decision made we'd aim for our first corbett of 2018!
It is a very popular hill, but I timed my arrival right as there was an empty parking space in the main parking area so I didn't have to park on the side of the road. In no time at all Moss and myself were ready to get going. I have done part of this walk before, but turned back when I saw the very dark clouds that were in the process of eating the target. Today couldn't have been more different with the sun beaming down. I barely made a zig on the first zig-zags just up from the start before stopping to take off my jacket. It never went back on.
It is a clear well-made path all the way to the summit though the haze meant the views probably weren't at their best. In the sun the whole time, I was glad I put on some suncream! We reached the summit surprisingly quickly, the whole walk taking less than two and a half hours. With time to spare, I decided to head home via Braemar and Glenshee rather than back over the Cairn o Mount road. There was no one skiing at the Lecht, but there was a bit more snow at Glenshee and a few skiiers making the most of it while it lasts!
