The second trip of 2018, two weeks before the first. The conditions were like night and day! 2 weeks ago I was walking in snow shortly after leaving the car, this time there were only a few patches on much higher ground.
There were 4 of us on today walk, the usual Fraser and I plus Danny Jones from my work accompanied by Bear the lab.
As usual, it was a 6am start but only just over an hours drive to where we would park the car - a entrance road to a farm just off the A85. It was time to boot up and go.
The walk started boggy as described, I was s thankful I had my new waterproof boots on as I knew Fraser and Dannys feet were wet from the word go. After about an hour and a half we were at the base of the first Munro of the day - Sgiath Chuil. We stopped fo a bite to eat before the acsent, enjoying a great, clear view. We even noticed a few separate people heading up for their day out too. We had our food and headed on up, this was a steep climb but we made it. We summited just as the previous clear view clouded over
either way, number 53 was bagged!
Summit of Sgiath Chuil - Number 53We didn't stop long for photos and moved on, we noticed another summit not too far ahead so decided to head over there for a quick look, 10 mins later we were there and got a great view.
Just chillin' up the hills! The route said we had to back a bit to descent but it wasn't much difference to descent where we were so we went for it... I thought it was steep to get up, this was even steeper getting down! We all took our own path (subconciously for safety?) and slowly but surely we made it down.
A bit more boggy ground was passed to get to the base of Meall Glas then it was time to head up again. The going was quite steady and we stopped for lunch (and an awesome photo!) before starting the ascent again as it was steep, very steep....
very, very, very steep!
My awesome photo half way upI cannot stress how steep this was, again we kept our distance between us, a slip from anyone meant a bad injury (best case scenario). There were even points of this ascent we were climbing on all fours to get up. There were times I thought Danny wouldn't make it as he had so many layers on and wasn't as fit as he once was. However to head back down wasn't an option so we had to power through.
We made it to the stop then it was faily smooth sailing to the top of Munro 54 - Meal Glass! It didn't take long from here and I was elated as it was such a tough job to get here. Danny revealed he brought a hip flask too! First time of a nip on a summit!
Summit of Munro 54 - Meall GlasAgain a quick stop for photos then we headed on down. Again, it was steep but nothing compared to the rest of the day. Fraser had been on fire all day and was powering ahead keeping on track with the navigation. Soon enough, we make it to a road an headed back. The sun was beating down for the last 45 mins which was a nice end to the day, if it had been that warm the rest of the day we would have melted.
We got back to the car, stripped down a but then headed off home.
Danny was driving, had a couple of iffy bits of driving; nearly overtaking with a cyclist on the other side, also nearly running into the back of someone if I hadn't stopped him!
Anyway,as usual a great day out in the hills.
