Great photography and right to tell the full story. The delight of walking wild places is tempered by how easily a slip can become more serious. It's a thought though for solo walkers. My pal Kath died walking solo and the thought of her lying injured with no help at hand haunts me still.

A few years ago a friend and I were heading round the base of Tryfan going to a climb when we met a couple who were searching for a relative who had been missing for 2 days, his car had been found in the valley. We thought should we help, but MRT were on an extensive search and we felt there was little we could do. We didn't do any more climbs that day though. It was a reminder of what can happen doing what you love, reinforced the next day when we sadly heard that his body had been found.

Your fine report highlights why we go to the hills and why we find it worthwhile, thanks for sharing it with us.

Wonderful set of photos from a stunning area. That's such a sad ending and I am feeling for the friends and family of the walker.
I am glad you posted it, I am sure he wants to be remembered as a soul in the hills.

Wow 😮 when you say an ‘early start’ you really mean it! 🤣 what was it 3.30am? From your photos it looks like it is so worth it to start the day by witnessing the sun rise 😊 Stunning pictures
So sad to hear about the gentleman you met.
RIP

Thanks all and for the reassurance - it's sobering to reflect on the incidents so many of us have come across

I’m really glad that you submitted your report and relating your encounter with my brother. It has been a very sad time but Ian was doing what he loved in a most wonderful part of the country. I still recall my time there with him 30 years ago to the day walking through Knoydart as one the best adventures with him. The whole family appreciate the report and all comments made.

I am so pleased you put this Walk Report up. As Ian’s sister it has given the family an insight into Ian’s last couple of days with the fantastic scenery and conditions in Knoydart. Your photographs are stunning. Ian did not suffer and sadly he died doing what he loved although his life was taken from him far too early. I knew he had a chat with someone up the hill that day through a mutual friend so thanks for your thoughts and lovely tribute and to all others who have posted their thoughts on this Report as well.

I understand totally why you may have misgivings about posting this report but you did the right thing. RIP to that poor chap and my thoughts go out to his family and friends. Some beautiful images that any mountain lover would enjoy.

It is indeed a great post. And i do understand the doubt after having experienced this sad thing.
One can only hope that the man died of natural cause and in this way died doing what he loved most.
My heart goes out to his family and relatives.

Love the way you tackle the hills and outdoors and the way you report the walks.   . Sad about the guy, hope your wife wasn't worried.
