November in Glen Cannich can be both a colourful and bleak experience! The colours are beautiful and the sound of rutting stags adds an ethereal feel to the Glen, but the heavy cloud gave a gloomy feel to the day.
I set off from Muchrachd farm road end and took a direct line (slightly east of north) past a healthy herd of cattle, gaining height quickly due to the steepness of the ascent. The going can be a bit boggy but you soon move onto drier going and the height gain provides fantastic views back to the Mullardoch hills.
Once height is gained, this is a fun hill with scrambling over the tops and slabs keeping you on your toes, literally!
The initial view of the twin tops is impressive but, given the wind speed had increased considerably, a bit daunting. However they make an easy short scramble and the views from the tops are stunning with Strathfarrar, Mullardoch and Glen Cannich all set out below in a magnificent panorama.
There are various descent options available. I chose to meander back across the tops looking for a few scrambles before descending to Muchrachd and an enjoyable short afternoon on a fine Corbett.
