I hadn't expected to bag another hill after we left Braemar, but then I saw Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh and I realized I had a chance to get one more (small) summit. So on my final morning run in Scotland, I headed out the door of my B&B and aimed for this impressive landmark. I didn't know how to get to the top, but as I ran along the road at the base, somebody kindly told me there was a grassy path on the other side of the hill. I found a steep, narrow path, and tried to run up it, but only made it about halfway. As I ascended, I got a good, close-up view of the dreaded gorse bushes. When I reached the top, I discovered I was on a secondary peak, so I then ran across to the real summit. As promised in my guidebook, a fantastic view in all directions. Definitely something every visitor to this beautiful city should experience. On the way back, I discovered a much wider and more gradual path down to the road. Next time (if there ever is a next time), I'll go up that way too.
