This was a long walk, made longer by missing the turnoff in the woods for Ballachulish and going down the route to the signposted car park. However where a dam is reached there is another chance to head over to Ballachulish by taking the right turn here and walking up and onto the return route. I must say I did not enjoy the return as it is walking in forestry once I got through the boggy descent from the ridge. There are stone steps once the sign for the car park is reached at the trees but these go on for ever before finally walking in the trees. My mistake added to the misery but really, longer to get back than it took to climb 2 munros!! I had thought of simply retracing my steps and now I dearly wish I had.
The climb up from the village is wet too but I aimed at three landslips as my route up and others must have done too as there was a path from the top one up to joining the path for the climb up to the ridge. From here it is a recognisable munro path, well worn and scree covered. The views are now fantastic, of the hill and the surroundings. Really enjoyed it even if it was hard work. Sgorr Dhearg is spectacular, Sgorr Donuaill less so, but they lived up to my expectations and I took lots of photos.
