Camped at Morvich (a great site) then headed past the Cluanie Inn and parked carefully and slowly at the next lay-bye on the left. I say that as I’m not sure they were pot holes or evidence of a recent meteor shower.
The morning had been quite sunny however the forecast was for it to cloud over soon after we started. Basically that turned out to be accurate.
A good path just after the forest takes you up the hill, as you reach the top the good path stops and a less distinct path continues on up past the first peak at 734m to continue across the ridge till the summit of Am Bathach (Corbett) is reached.
About 3 years ago we had set off to do the Four Brothers. It had been a bloody cold day and after Sgurr a’Bhealaich Dheirg we had had enough. The thought of the descent and the bog trot to Ciste Dhubh, er, no.
So, off we trod off Am Bathach down to the bog crossing Bealach to ascend Ciste Dhubh only it wasn’t boggy. It was bone dry after a sustained period of dry weather. Excellent.
Good ascent path and good ridge walk to the summit. It was a cold wind but it was dry. The light occasionally broke through to give us glimpses of the stunning Kintail range. We found a spot protected from the wind to enjoy the vista around us. Over to Affric and all the way round the range of the Kintail hills. We had now done all of the Munros in view. It had taken a while, but we had done it. More importantly, we had enjoyed it.
As we returned to the Moby we wondered if we would be back. We would of course as we still had the Forcan ridge and saddle to do.
This was the end of our week in Scotland. Back to Creag Meagaidh for an overnight stop then back to The Lakes.
After an amazing spell of weather it had been a tad disappointing that we did not fair better but hey ho. You take what you are given.
