Set off earlier for Harvey's walk as the weather was due to deteriorate later according to the forecasters.
Parked by the Brig o Ess in a convenient neuk, so as not to obstruct the track up to St Lesmo's - church further up the glen.

Strode off on a nice warm day, past an inscribed drinking trough, not far up the track.

Met a group of walkers of similar age as us, descending the track in the opposite direction. We presumed they had been dropped off in the Forest o Birse and had walked over the Fungle Road for a pickup at Brig o Ess.
Diverted up to the Radio masts at the top of Craigendinnie. Seems a new mast had been built to replace a temporary trailer-mounted one parked off up a short track - so there were 3 masts all together ! The trailer mast had lost the blades from it's wee wind turbine, which was propped up against the towing arm of the trailer. We tried to have a piece by the main mast, but were driven off by the flies. We blamed Harvey for bringing them with him from his forays into the brushwood’s ! We followed a cairned path down to the track and wandered off round Black Craig - just keeping ahead of the flies.

A smirr of rain-laden cloud swooped over the hill from the south and temporarily enveloped us. The rain didn't amount to much and we soon had sunny views to the north towards Morven across Glentannar.
We found a couple of wee tortoishell butterflies ( I think ) on the path with their wings folded up – looking like bits of black plastic. We presumed they were waiting for the sun to come out again to warm them up.

Then spotted a mini-toad trying to escape from us on the track.
We eventually had our piece where the track forked right down towards the car.
As we drove back towards Peterculter, the clag increased ahead of us and more serious rain started.
Not really what the forecasters had advertised………none-the-less a braw walk wi’ Harvey & Gordon.
