This is a great location and n enjoyable walk - well worth the drive along the road up Glen Muick. - and I am not going to improve on some of the descriptions already posted.

You need £4 in coins for the parking - although there are no posted penalties for not paying the requested £4. The toilets run by Aberdeenshire Council had loo roll, soap and water for handwashing - pretty good.

We followed the route as described, but the signposts erected by the Estate suggest walking the other way round - I am not sure it makes a lot of difference. The walk out is along a road clearly used to access Glas-allt Shiel house, and is pretty good. Once you pass the house the path is narrower and the section from the beach at the far end of the loch to the bridge over the Black Burn is quite broken up and rocky - I wouldn't want to tackle this section if there had been a lot of rain.

After the Black Burn the path returns to a hardcore path which is level and flat.
