A nice loop but when I walked it (Sept 2018) there were lots of trees down and blocking the path. Fine as long as you don't mind a little clambering to get back onto the path.

Note that as of the 12/12/18 the return loop is closed for tree felling work. If there is no work going on it is possible to complete the walk but it's very rough and muddy going in places, particularly on the steep part of the descent. And the fallen trees Kim mentions are still there.

Not sure how long the work will go on for but the path down is severely damaged

Following on from Theoldfogey's report. The area that was being described as closed for felling work is still closed. As of last Sunday 19th May 2019. The footpath is gone, the land churned up beyond any form of recognition, deep culverts of mud and nasty looking fragmented trees lie abundant. The wood has been stacked but is as yet to be collected possibly creating yet more damage when this eventually happens.

There is litter everywhere, oil slicks (I presume Diesel) and in Short lacking any form of sympathetic removal of these beautiful trees. The quartz seam running through here has been torn asunder and leave very little energy to the place.

Down by the curling pond (which is nearly completely filled over with grasses on the road there are literally hundreds of dead frogs, We were trying to figure out if this was caused by pollution or early morning vehicles.

I wouldn't recommend this walk anymore (the lower part 1.2 miles ok ) but the upper layers are hard work, treacherous and visually upsetting..

MODERATORS NOTE 2021: This route has been fully revised after completion of forestry works and now follows a different route; it is waymarked.
