Starting point
So I decided to be awkward and walk the Speyside way the other way run, from Kincraig! i also decided that I would do the first two sections together, so walking from Kingussie to Boat of Garten.

I left my car in Boat by the Community Centre and caught the bus to Aviemore and then another to Kincraig. As all the routes finish in Kincraig, I did have some difficulty finding the start point, and started at Braeriach Road rather than Speybank Walk. (I should have coughed up the extra for the new version of the map that includes the Kincraig section!). However, I joined the old Badenoch Way which leads onto The Speyside Way in short time.

The weather was stunning, below zero but blue skies, so fantastic walking weather. The Cairngorms were under cloud but the scenery was beautiful as Purdy the dog and I walked through Silver Birch and Aspen Woods. The countryside then opens out with fields as the path heads towards Kinrara. The railway line is alongside the path, but only one train passed us and we didn’t see any other walkers.

There are very helpful mileage markers all the way along this part of the Way. Soon we were passing Kinrara and the Duke of Gordon’s Monument at the top of the hill and passing through more mixed woodland before coming to sheep fields. Just past Aviemore’s water treatment works, you pass under the railway, cross the road and see the signs for Aviemore.

We walked briskly and it took 2 hours. Now onto the Boat of Garten stretch!

If you reduce the size of your photos you'll be able to load them. I've just posted something on the Boat to Aviemore section so wouldn't mind seeing them! 8)
