Our 1st Wedding anniversary on Arran

Just catching up with a few walk reports that I have totally forgotten about till now.

Last summer my husband had the opportunity to spend 6 months working on the Isle of Bute, with free accommodation. Naturally we jumped at the chance to spend a little time in a new area and get to know the place. Granted Bute isn't the most hilly of the isles but it is right next to another island, a rather more hilly island.... Arran!

So off we trundled the LONG way round to Arran, to be honest we had originally planned to go to Islay but the ferry was fully booked for months so we ended up taking the small ferry over to the north of Arran. 8)

Anyhow.

Both of us had forgotten that the 27th was intact our 1st wedding anniversary! Oops! But it worked out that we couldn't have spent the day any better if we had planned it. :D

We had been camping at one of the many sites on Arran and decided that since the weather was glorious we would tackle the islands highest peak.... Goat fell. So off we trotted up the tourist path. I was intrigued by the sounds of some of the ridge walks up to Goatfell but I am not the best with heights and exposure so I didn't want to risk getting most of the way up, becoming crag bound and having to turn back. More scrambling practice needed I think. The way was very easy going for most of the climb the last 100m or so of ascent is very steep though but I found it very enjoyable even though my thighs were not having such a fun time of it.

It was a roasting hot day and I was slightly worried that we weren't going to be able to carry enough water for us and the dog. Not to fear the dog will always find some water to splash about in!

Views were excellent! The West is a lot craggier than the East for sure.

We realised it was our wedding anniversary when we were on the way back down off the summit! Well what better excuse for a nice refreshing pint at the bar at the bottom!

We went back to the campsite via the CoOp armed with steaks and champagne for our tea. It really was a wonderful day and couldn't have been better if we had tried. :)

No point putting our route up as it was straight up and down the tourist path.
