Still working my way through all the significant hills south of the Highland Boundary Fault - but most of those remaining are not very close, not good for shortening winter days - so today I decided to revisit the Cairnwell area, easy hills and not too far from home
Very very different to being on most Borders hills - there were PEOPLE (17 on my walk), bulldozed tracks, paths beaten by the tread of many feet, and even SIGNPOSTS (well around Butcharts anyway). Also a huge CAR PARK and TOILETS! And extremely hard underfoot - no tussocks here!
From the carpark, up Carn Aosda first then over to Carn a Gheoidh where it was pleasant to shelter from the chill wind and in good company with Tim and Izzy.

Low cloud to the south-west

I decided not to add The Cairnwell to the day's walk (just too many tracks, buildings and people) so cut back to the col and then the easy (if very hard underfoot) descent back to the carpark. A very satisfying day back in the hills.
