Summary:Not surprisingly for mid-December, an oppressively dark, short day. Forecast adequate, but on the cusp of staying indoors. Already blustery down in Morvich, buffeting by the time of Bealach an Sgairne. Light showers and some hail. Not the cold of winter, more autumnal. Some views and splashes of blue sky, but cloud base seemed to be just below summit of A' Ghlas-bheinn. Sat sheltering for half an hour, waiting for a clearing - none came, except watery sun through cloud. Compass necessary for nav over Creag na Saobhie and Meall Dubh, before dropping out of clouds and view across pathless moor to Falls of Glomach. Very wet going in places but thankfully stayed dry thereafter with winds keeping up. Falls stunning, though would be more so in white winter conditions, though sketchy at edge. Deserted. Respite from the winds a relief. Walking out and uphill felt a chore, lazily went by sight as visibility much improved. Must have missed the 'clear' path, probably staying just under it until Bealach na Sroine, making a straightforward walk unnecessarily hard-going - boggy and tussocky. Relief to find stalker's/walker's (to The Falls) path, and enjoy a fair sunset heading down SW facing glen. Could not find route to FB over Abhainn Chonaig, poss due to tree-felling ops and diversion. So headed down Strath through farms to Ruarach, a pleasant warm-down timed well to end with the last of the dusk daylight. No wildlife. No people. Tough but satisfying day.
