As the stars finally aligned ( Off work & good weather) , we had a number of options in our heads where we wanted to go and finally settled on the Aonachs. We figured with a good visibilty day, they would be a good viewpoint for the surrounding mountains, and we were to be proven right. After just over 5 hours, we arrived at the Nevis Range resort. We had thought about doing the WH route from Glen Nevis, but I figured there's enough driiving in one day without adding more on!! It was like a Spring day when we left the car at 9:00 and while heading through the trees, it wasn't long before we felt overdressed. Luckily, the mountain bikers hadn't started yet, so we were able to make good time on the paths through the forest, and the on to the open mountainside up to the Snow Goose Restaurant. As we ascended breast of Aonach Mor, Carn Mor Dearg and Ben Nevis started to come into view.

They are such impressive mountains from this side, almost a shame they aren't in full Winter conditions. Nice, if a little hazy, views across the Ring of Steall.

Once we cleared the final building, it is an easy enough traverse to the summit of Aonach Mor, a grand old cairn awaits you.

A bit of a chill wind starting whipping up here, so gloves and hats were donned, but they didn't last long, as the descent to the bealach seemed to offer shelter, so they were soon back off

The Grey Corries were looking fantastic from here and it is good sometimes to look at where you have been previously

Again, an easy ascent up to Aonach Beag, though I can imagine the initial climb from the bealach can cause you to stop and think in snow and ice conditions.

We headed away from the summit, to find shelter for a food stop, and also to take in the spectacle of the Mamores.

Fuelling complete, it was, unfortunately, time to pretty much retrace our steps all the way back to the car. A bit of entertainment watching some lunatic mountain bikers on the way down, but i'm glad we chose to walk it all, rather than go on the gondola. Not that old yet!!!
