April 7th 2009
Driving down the narrow road to the car park in lovely sunshine, we were quite optimistic that the weather would
remain dry and clear to see the beautiful sights we had seen in photographs. But the clouds were already rolling in
as we arrived.
Following the route from walkhighlands we set off along the track and joined the path up from the cottage to get our
first views of the mountains ahead and across the loch.
The rain started and was on and off for the next couple of miles and although it was getting a bit murky we were still
able to take photo`s.
But that soon changed and about two thirds along the outward leg it began to absolutely hammer it down, these are
the times when you wonder if it`s all worth it trudging along seeing nothing and wishing you were back at the car.
With the wind and rain in our faces we eventually reached the path taking you up to the Allbeithe youth hostel,
turning left we headed down past Strawberry Cottage and sought shelter on the lee side of a metal out building.
With the rain coming down at about 45 degrees we were actually quite dry while we had eat and drink.
Setting off across the bridge we passed some more buildings before having to cross a burn feeding the River Affric
we had crossed a lot on the other side of the loch but more care seemed to be required on this one.
The rain was easing slightly as I looked back to the bridge.
For a brief moment the clouds cleared and the sun came out forming a rainbow over the loch it`s things like this
that make it worth it.Sorry about the raindrop on the lens.
The bits and pieces of views across the loch we got after that do seem to support the view that anti clockwise is the way to do this walk.Although still raining it was a bit more of a comfortable but seemingly never ending walk back
to the car park, rewarded by the sight of the beautiful Loch Salach a` Ghiubhais to the right of the track.
Finally arriving back at the car you`ve guessed it the sun came out.
