Decided to walk the coastal path from Arbroath to Broughty Ferry today (route description for other half of this walk -
https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/angus/arbroath-carnoustie.shtml ). Arriving in Arbroath we parked up at the West Links (free parking there
) and set off. We were in luck, the tide was out so we could walk along the beach, which we did almost all the way to Easthaven only heading onto the cycle path at the the bridge just before Easthaven to avoid the sewage outflow.

- Playing with kelp
- Easthaven
There are toilets at Easthaven and an outside tap with a dog water bowl, plus boxes of dog toys to use on the beach. No toys for us, but the dogs did appreciate the fresh water! From her we followed the signs under the bridge and onto a cycle route that runs alongside the road all the way to Carnoustie. Not really coastal this bit, would be very boring were it not for the wildflowers growing at the side of the paths.
At Carnoustie we returned to the coast (there are several dog-friendly cafes, pubs and shops in Carnoustie if you needed a break!) and followed the path by the seafront to the golf course where we continued to follow the coast on a clear track to the MOD shooting range. No shooting on today, just as well as that does tend to upset Moss, the track passing some ponds and crossing the road to reach a very long, straight cycle track. Would be great for the bike. Walking it, this bit did seem to go on forever, and ever, and ever...
- Is the end in sight yet Moss?
It did end! We eventually reached Monifieth. I've lived up here nearly 13 years, and this is the first time I've been in Monifieth. Here we were able to return to the beach with its groins to trap the sand, or for Moss to jump over. Just a short stretch of beach though and then we had to return to the pavement. Broughty Ferry Beach isn't dog friendly so aside from a stretch on grass the rest of this walk was on the pavement passing Broughty Castle and to the harbour. There are Oor Wullie statues around at the moment, very disapointed Oor Freddie is in a park where dogs aren't allowed, but there was another one further along that the dogs posed with.
- Jumping the groins
- Water off a dogs back

From here it was up to the train station to catch the train. This is the first time I've used public transport for a walk with the dogs. The train was running on time, then an announcement that the train was delayed
But the train actually showed up on time so we were on our way back to Arbroath to go and find the car! Coinneach decided to help tidy the train picking up some of the crumbs on the floor
