Too much heat and/or pollen for me in June so wee walks were on for that month.

Image
Started off from the car park opposite the Old Smiddy.

Image
Turned left along the A93 then right onto Pitmurchie Road up to the turn off on the left for the Deeside Way.

Image
The sheep were finding it tough in the heat and taking shelter in the shade.

Image
As was I.

Image
View of Clachnaben.

Image
A very pleasant walk past fields and woodland leads to the woods proper which gave us more shelter from the sun.

Image
Turned right and uphill at the Dess Burn bridge.

Image
First distant sight of the falls.

Image
Quite a sight despite the modest scale.

Image
Trees around add to the setting.

Image
About the best view from this side is still a little way off the actual falls.

Image
Zoom shot but it does feel quite close up in any case.

Burn and falls.

Had a wee picnic near the bridge before heading back to the car.

Image
Butterly bush or buddleia on the way back but no butterflies here -plenty elsewhere though.

Image
Not sure who this is.

Image
Drove round to the correctly guessed "other side" -a steepish, short and rough track leading down to the falls from a small lay-by.

All in all a pleasant walk with a pleasant surprise in the drama of the falls.

Tried this walk out today (21-09-2020) with my wife and small dog - took a very leisurely 2:41 hours to complete the 8.12km.
The route shown here is c/w, with an easier ascent to the loop 'tangent'.
Thank you litljortindan for the post that assisted us in making the decision to try this pleasant walk today.
P.S. - You can pick up a helpful route pamphlet from the Red Telephone box next to the Old Smithy sign on the main street.
