A very special 2 Munro’s gift to me by Kirsty and Rebecca on my 60th birthday. I arrived back from a great holiday holiday in York with Elaine and opened my present only to discover I was of to stay at St Cyrus for a couple of nights and we were all going to Glen Doll to climb Mayar and Driesh.
Soon after we arrived at St Cyrus and being well fed we wanted to find the local beech and were not disappointed, it was gorgeous and of course Zach loved it.
We set of from the caravan at 8.30 and arrived at the ranger information car park just after 9.30. Then it was off up the track for a nice gentle start to the day, a really nice walk through a wooded area then over a small stream and into Corrie Fee which was very beautiful
. At the far end it was pretty steep with stone steps for much of the way which Rebecca got very fed up with and suffered with sore knees. Kirsty was striding ahead to the first summit while Rebecca and I were nearly running out of energy.
We all managed to reach the top of Mayar which was quite windy and much cooler than further down we had our lunch just off the top to get out of the wind.
Suitable refreshed we found the going pretty easy to the top of Driesh a very flat to with a shelter cairn on top
.
We retraced our steps for a bit then headed down an excellent path until eventually reach a wooded area then a cleared area before eventually back into the woods and across the river and back to the car park.
Then it was back to the caravan and a shower before going into Montrose where we picked up fish and chips (sausage for Rebecca) and we sat down and looked over the sea lovely and warm with great views.
