Day 2 on the Uists dawned rainy. It was forecast to improve a little from the south later in the day, so we headed to South Uist. After a morning exploring a few museums and old chapels, we crossed the causeway onto Eriskay for an exploration of the island. The rain had stopped, but it had been replaced by thick fog almost down to sea level.
We started the circuit at the beach at Rubha Ban:
We left the beach by the Am Politician pub, named after the ship which ran aground carrying thousands of whisky bottles in 1941. A quick tour of the village, then uphill towards the fog line:

A narrow path leads off the road just after a small mast. We were soon into the cloud here and the path braids confusingly, so some careful navigation required. There are a few wooden posts, but not close enough together than we could always see the next one.
We were relieved to see Loch Cracabhaig looming out of the mist:
Across the moor then onto a track down to Coilleag a' Phrionnsa, where Bonnie Prince Charlie is supposed to have landed. This is a beautiful spot, even in grey weather:
We then stuck to the shoreline all the way back to the start, exploring various rock pools on the way.
