Cullykhan Bay sunrise

I occasionally try to take in short local walks for sunrise or sunset. This one was fifteen minutes of walking and half an hour of finger numbing standing or shuffling about in the cold. Worth it though!


Pennan Head.


Looking across the bay from near the car park.


There is a nice grassy track followed by a boardwalk on the way down.


First sunrise light obscured by cloud but a nice effect.












































Light changing.












There is Pennan.


And there is Pennan Head again.






Time to head back home.

Now THAT'S a sunrise worth getting up for. So many that I try, either the sun rises straight out of the sea with no cloud to make things pink, or there is a bank of cloud all round the horizon.

I think we get our fair share of decent mornings in Aberdeenshire. Definitely need a bit of cloud around to make it worthwhile though.
This was a good sunrise but the unknown quantity was how my camera / random image generator would respond. It's ok from sunrise to sunrise +5 minutes but then freaks out at any direct sunlight after that. Where other cameras produce the traditional bright circle with beams coming out of it mine produces an oval shaped bright smear at best and then garish pink spotted geometric patterns at other times. So it did quite well this time.

Thanks. Don't think I'll bother any more this year though as sunrise is heading round the north east corner of Aberdeenshire and I'm not so keen on any of the east side until south of Stonehaven which is probably too far for it to feel worthwhile unless it's with a longer walk attached.
