Staying at the youth hostel in Ullapool with Iain Cameron for three days walking.

Youth Hostel Ullapool

Today was our first day and we decided to tackle 3 which were about half an hour drive from the hostel, it was about nine by the time we started walking and we made good time on a track which let down to a wooded area and the across a bridge, then it was on to a foot path and a bogey section before we crossed a rickety old bridge soon to be replace with a new one as part of a hydro scheme. We skirted along the side of the first hill of the day before realising that we had to start heading straight up if we were to reach the summit off Meall a’Chrasaidh. The cloud had covering the other tops was not on this lower top so visibility was good.

Meall a' Chrasgaidh trig point on top has seen better days.

As we descended To the Bealach the wind was quite strong and when we had lunch about one o’clock it was dry but a bit cold. After a bite to eat we headed up to the highest top of the day Sgurr nan Clach, this seemed to take no time perhaps because of the energy boost from our lunch.

nice clear skys as we headed for the last top Sgurr nan Clach Geala in the back ground

We quickly set of for the last top of the day athe wind had dropped and a well worn path along with great views made the the going easy. The last top of Sgurr nan Each great views no wind a wee cup of coffee what more could you ask for.

Last top of the day great views with An Teallach away in the distance

As usual the walk back to the car was long but as with the rest of the day it was accompanied by discussions on a host os subjects from geology to space travel. Big thanks to Iain for the company and being the driver.

Lochan near the start of the walk showing plenty of clouds which thankfully cleared by the time we reached the tops.
