Beautiful Autumn day. 8:30am third car in the small parking area. Be careful how you park as one earlier car was blocked in
by later parking). (on return 30 cars scattered along the verges) Easy to follow wh route. Aim to the houses, then pass the dam and keep climbing. Track is land rover stony path for much of the way. . Turning left at the small cairn provided a pleasant softer track although definitely steeper. Eventually plateaus a bit, and follow the old fence posts before final trek to summit cairn. Sunny and warm most of the way but quite chilly in the summit wind,.so much appreciated stone shelter wall to open the flask and have early lunch. 3 other early walkers chatted before going separate ways.. After that route became quite busy, solos, duos, large groups and dogs.
Cut the corner off the fence posts on way back, for quieter way by picking a path through the heather - bit squelchy but nothing difficult. Two people asked me to confirm the way up, but on a clear day apart from the cairn turn, would be hard to go wrong.pleasant woodsmoke smell from patches of recent burned heather, streams running well, small waterfalls, a stag on the fields near the car park, a couple of mountain hares - all in all a good day.
