I was joined on this walk by my son Craig for what was to be his 1st Munro and couldn't have asked for a better day on an appropriate hill....you couldn't have bought the views from the summit.

We set of for a foggy drive uo the A80 / M80 / A84 and it wasn't until between Callander and Lochearnhead that the fog really lifted and by the time we reached The Lawers reserve with the cars already parked it looked like it would be a busy day on the hills, and the there was a wee red car with frozen windscreen at the Cairn for Meall Corranaich and Meall a Choire Leith..so they had been up early. We finally arrived at parking area at Dam (NN510463) around 9.20am and set off around 9.45am following track to (NN511466) where we desided to leave track and start our assent.

We assended to crag at (NN510471) and continued NW to approx (NN504484) and then to plateau at (NN504488)

Plateau & Summit crest ahead
due to ground being frozen conditions underfoot were perfect and would certainly recommend this hill in such conditions to avoid a boggy peat terrain. From here it was a reasonably quick assent to summit crest and a descent walk round the crest to the trig point.

As previously mentioned you couldn't have bought the views.....it was unbelievable...the sky was clear of cloud and in every direction we cvould see as far as our eyes would let us. Schiehallion, The Buachaille / Aonach Eagach and Nevis Range could be picked out easily and you really appreciate what this fine country of ours has to offer.

After the summit shots it was time for the traditional cuppa and sandwich whilst admiring the surrounds. We then followed crest to cairn at (NN499490) where we dropped SE into Coire nam Miseach and followed it down to the Loch.

Back on the track I wasn't expecting the steady incline (bummer) before the drop down to car park area and the drive home.

On my last venture into this area, I thought I has some good Stag shots, but had camera on wrong setting.....but managed to get better shots this time.

Cheers Rock'r,

I was lucky and had two good days for walking...... I think this hill maybe doesn't quite get the respect it deserves...and to be up there and see views I really wasn't expecting was outstanding.

Glad you had a good day. I enjoyed this hill when i did it a couple of summers ago. We walk up in the evening, Cooked tea & had a beer watching the sun go down over glencoe, then walked down & camped at the resevoir.

Regards
