Fraochaidh, from Glen Duror. Bit of a grey day, but not the worst.

Nice report and pics, but it amazes me how many people do this from Balachulish when it's so much quicker from Duror : I guess it's a much more interesting approach. I think the cairn woiuld make an excellent entry for the Turner prize - better than at least 75% of the ones I've seen

I think it used to be a bit of a tree bashing exercise at one point? I did it from Balachulish which is a nice approach.

We did it from Ballachulish, too. Longer but more time on the ridge :D Also the approach from the north-east is entirely on Forestry Commission (or whatever it is called these days) land, so no issues with stalking in September/October.

I'm tempted to try the Duror approach anyway, just to see the other side of the mountain. Fraochaidh is a very underrated hill IMHO.

Certainly not a bad hill and not too shabby going up from Duror, either, on the whole.

No need for bashing trees now :) The quad-bike track is a bit steep and stony, but keeps on going till clear of the trees.

I can only speak for myself, but being dependent on public transport, Ballachulish is an easily accessible start point. Duror, not so much
