Kintail & Skye Day 4

After a wet evening in Dornie, a sunny morning at last! It wasn't supposed to last, but we thought we could nip up the local Corbett before any thunderstorms arrived.

Some of the best views you could imagine on the ascent, and there's even a pretty good track / path - bliss.

We were aware that the cloud was quickly building and covering some summits to the south:

Sgurr an Airgid from the bealach - the summit now in and out of the cloud:

Looking a bit stormy to the east now:

Sunshine holding on in the north:

Approaching the summit, patchy mist swirling:

Our luck was in - the cloud lifted and the sun reappeared just as we reached the broken trig point:

Amazing views of Loch Duich:

As recommended by the WH route guide, we carried on to the western top of Sgurr na Seamraig for views towards the Skye Bridge:

Looking back to Sgurr nan Airgid:

Another bonus of this short detour was a sighting of dozens of deer on the slopes to the north, hidden from the main summit:

Mother and fawn - awwww!

Back the same way, but with ever-changing light and cloudscapes. Gleann Lichd:

The west end of the Beinn Fhada massif looked particularly enticing:

Receding tide on Loch Duich:

Before driving off we climbed the mound behind St Dubhthach's Church, topped by a war memorial.

Wonderful walk for a morning!

In the end... the storms never reached this part of the mainland, and in the afternoon the weather actually brightened up again, with a sunny end to an afternoon stroll up to Totaig Broch.

You're right. It is indeed. I think I was also racing against impending rain and storms when I squeezed this one in a couple of years back but my grass wasn't nearly as bright green as that!

A lovely yet very underrated hill. It's even better in winter conditions.

The other Corbett across the glen (Sgurr Mgic Bharraigh) is just as good, with wonderful views to the Sisters of Kintail.

That might be my camera - the photo of the church in particular does look a bit too green!

Yes, the hills all around looked very enticing - just a shame we didn't find the weather good enough to want to attempt them this time. Next trip...
