Kintail & Skye 2019We still had most of the afternoon left after getting down from Beinn na Caillich, so headed to Kinloch for a visit to the abandoned village of Leitir Fura. This is an easy walk, waymarked by Forestry & Land Scotland (as they are now called), so needs minimal description beyond the route map:
We used the upper path (with one sharp-ish ascent) for the outward route. This winds through the forest at first, but later on there are good views across the Sound of Sleat. Lots of slightly annoying flying insects around: a few midges, clegs, flying ants, bees, hoverflies...
The abandoned township is at the far end, with a few signboards detailing the difficult life of former tenants:
The path leaves the village at its lower end, before joining a track which leads all the way back to the start. To be perfectly honest, we found the return walk a little bit tedious. An oncoming storm - which had been pounding Glenelg but was now moving in our direction - had us walking a little faster for the last mile or two
Not the most riveting ranmble we've ever done, but filled a couple of hours nicely, and we stayed dry again!
