GordonC was fresh back from his Highland safari and forsook his chores to come with Harvey and me on the hill to Glen Prosen.
Headed south, glad that the queue to leave the new bypass was in the other direction, with lots of workies fumimg at the cheapskate roundabouts used instead of slip roads.........
Drove up Glen Prosen past Scott/Wilson memorial, failed to take the turn at Spott and ended up at the Prosen Hostel before realising our mistake. Backed up on to the right route to the Lodge wi reid faces !
Looked into the estate office and had a news with Bruce Cooper the head keeper. They'd finished stalking, so we were welcomed and he gave us the latest info in the three HUmps of interest. viz: Hill of Strone, Eskielawn and Craig o Thieves.
- Parkup at the end of the track for Hill o Strone
- Glenprosen estate office & Head Keepers house
Headed off up the main track followed by the ATV track up the shank to the top of Strone. We cooried down behind the wee cairn after walking across the top towards Driesh - as it looked higher. Nope - the cairn looked higher when we got there and looked back.
- Looking down to Glenprosen from Shank o Strone
- Mt Blair from Hill o Strone
- Coorie-ing doon oot o the cauld breeze
- Driesh from Strone
Had a quick piece and when we saw another shower approach from the north, scuttled back down the shank to the safety of the trees alongside the main track. However, the shower missed us and we made it back to the car unscathed - again. No time to do any more hills as the days are getting shorter by the week.
Disturbed a pair of buzzards from their roadside fencepost perches on the way down the glen and had to evade the hordes of reared pheasants awaiting their spring shoots.
A great day with quite a bit of sunshine helping to offset the effect of the cold northerly breeze.
Stopped at Peggy Scotts on the way home for a cup of coffee and a bacon roll - yum !
Just got home ahead of the workie exodus......
