Culter Fells

Had been waiting for a decent weather window to do the Culter Fell Donalds, as it's a long way to drive from Cumbria to be wandering around in the clag missing out on the views. Saturday 9th November looked OK so I met up with Karl at 0700 and we arrived at the start at about 0815. Except it was the wrong start (my fault) and we wasted a bit of time walking up the road and then, on realising my mistake, walking back again and driving to the correct start at Culter Allers Farm. We set off properly at 0845.
Weather was quite cold with some ice about and the slightest dusting of snow on the higher tops. It was rather breezy on the heights. We stopped at Holm Nick (between Gathersnow Hill and Culter Fell) for a lunch break. Got back to the car at 1545. A good walk on some fine, open hill country marred only by the windfarm.
Our descent from Tippet Knowe went down the very steep slope to the track beside Kings Beck. But a path, which wasn't marked on our map, leads along the southern edge of the plantation to the road beside Culter Water and would be a much better way down.
