Previous trip - Suardalan & Glenelg

A nice Friday – and we were still on holiday 8) I’d suggested a three-dayer into Knoydart as the forecast looked good but Malky wasn’t keen to head straight back out again, and if I’m honest it would have been quite a tough ask. So we had a lazy start and drove to Torridon! I’m still so excited by the fact that Torridon is an easy daytrip from Inverness 8)

We were parked up at Incheril and heading off down the Loch Maree path. We met a couple who were thinking about walking to the abandoned ruin but when we were asked the only one we could think of was up at Lochan Fada which would have been quite a trek!

It was an easy walk along the good path to start with – the lovely autumnal colours were on show

Beinn Eighe, still hiding in the cloud up high
Image

We crossed the Allt Chnaimhean and then left the path and headed straight uphill. There was actually a faint path most of the way up which was helpful
Image

It was hot work but we gained height quickly
Image

Malky was so happy to be out 8)
Image

The burn disappeared into the mountain and the path sort of disappeared. We made for in between 2 crags on the skyline – unfortunately we had been talking about different crags and got a bit confused
Image

We eventually hit the ridge, although the ridge was a big lumpy plateau so we didn’t quite get the views down both sides yet!
Image

We headed uphill trying to stick close to the edge for the best views down Loch Maree

We reached Meallan Ghobhar and sat down to enjoy the views and eat some oatcakes

Slioch and an enticing green grassy slope that we thought we might come down later

The colours and water were very cool 8)

The final ascent ahead – although we had to navigate our way around a couple of lochans first!

A wee waterfall which would have made the water gathering a bit easier

Looking back – gaining height fast

The colours on the Beinn Eighe hills were awesome 8)

Finally we were on the top and able to look at some sunny Fannies

We walked on along the ridge – it was worth it for the views down to Slioch

Wee goats made me sing the Lonely Goatherd most of the rest of the day

We followed the big grassy terrace down and picked up a path which took us in between the giant cliffs

Loch Maree

We picked our way between the big rocks – impressive

Looking back up

It was steep and awkward and Malky was feeling very pleased with himself

Back at the loch

Back on the path it was an easy walk back along the track – past our ascent from earlier on – and all the way back to the car. An excellent wee day out in one of my favourite places 8)

Next adventure - Knoydart baby!
