In September we finally got around to climbing what is one of our closest hills - Allermuir Hill on the edge of the Pentlands.
We parked at the start of the road to the ski centre and climbed the steep path onto Caerketton Hill. Good views back to the city and to the dry ski slopes.
As we approached the summit we could hear the throaty calls of a few grouse, which stayed around for long enough for us to get a few interesting snaps:
From here it was a lovely, easy ridge walk via Carketton Craigs and Byerside Hill to the trig point on Allermuir Hill.
Always love views of Glencorse Reservoir hidden away in the centre of the hill range:
West Edinburgh & the Forth Bridges:
A path leads gently down to the unlikely thatched cottages at Swanston:
We were planning on lunch at Swanston Brasserie but the food looked a bit fussy so we carried on back to the start, where The Steading pub suited our needs perfectly
(Happy Christmas everyone!)
