Obney Hill, Glen Garr
Posted: Tue Jan 21, 2020 1:26 pmObney Hill, is in my humble opinion one of the better walks in the Dunkeld, Birnam and Bankfoot areas. It's not too short but not too serious and rewards those who want to explore with fabulous view.
The reason we wandered up this one was because I had seen it from King's Seat previously and then started picking it out on the skyline as I took my daily walk.
The starting point for this route is the Brann car park at Rumbling Bridge, a convenient place and on the Cataran trail. You simply follow the right of way up Glen Garr , muddy in places, until a lonesome pine suggests it's time to pull left and up the slopes on Obney hill itself. Keep going until you reach the top is one way. A better way is to head for the coll between Obney and King's Seat via a landrover or ATV track and then follow the ridge up to the top.
The top finds the location of an iron age hill fort (Not actually bagging these, there just seems to be plenty around on the local hills!) , a very obvious band of stone, the remnant of a collapsed fortification ring the summit and the trig point from where more view to the south across Strath Earn make you reach for the camera.
This is a lovely little hill, and one I'll repeat.
