With a weekend in Torridon looming, we thought a traverse of the Aonach Eagach would hold us in good stead for the scrambling and airiness to come. You tend to know when you're going to have a good day, and finding a £20 note at the side of the road as we headed back to the A82, was our good omen
. As always, Glen Coe looked spectacular as we walked through.
- (2 of) The Three Sisters.
After just over 6km, the climbing begins on a well worn path which takes you to Am Bodach.
- Stob Coire Sgreamach & Stob Coire nan Lochan loom over the Sisters.
- Loch Achtriochtan & distant Sgorr Dhearg.
- Na Gruagaichean & Binnein Mor from near Am Bodach.
- Sgurr Eilde Mor & Treig Munros.
- The Aonach Eagach.
- The Chancellor.
- The Ben over The Mamores.
. The views were fantastic, and we sat a while at Am Bodach taking it all in.
- Sgorr nam Fiannaidh & Meall Dearg.
For the most part, it is pretty easy going, with a couple of airy down climbs and small scrambles up, before you reach Meall Dearg.
- Don't slip!!!!
- The airy climb down part.
With the weather we were having, the route was straightforward and not taxing at all.
- Looking back along the ridge from Meall Dearg.
- Meall Dearg summit.
- Contemplating the Crazy Pinnacles.
So, The Crazy Pinnacles. Have read and watched so much of the AE over the years, that you almost talk yourself out of doing it. In the end, it turned out to be a sheep in wolfs clothing. Now, i'm sure in wet or icy conditions it would be a different proposition, but in dry conditions, it poses no problems to anyone with a head for heights and a little scrambling ability.
- Bidean nam Bian finally appears behind Stob Coire nan Lochan.
- Sgorr nam Fiannaidh beyond The Crazy Pinnacles.
It's about 1.5km between Meall Dearg & Stob Coire Leith and it was great fun.
- Looking back to Meall Dearg.
- Looking good!!
- Crazy Pinnacles.
- Aonach Eagach, back to Meall Dearg.
After Stob Coire Leith, it's easy walking on to the second Munro, Sgorr nam Fiannaidh.
- Sgorr nam Fiannaidh summit.
Having finally completed AE, all that remained was to amble down. We had contemplated doing the Pap as well, but it just didn't seem right to link it in with the AE, so we left it
Met a couple of locals on the summit, taking it all in there stride.
- Locals.
A grand day out, well recommended
