It was looking like one of the last hot sunny weekends of the year and the first in a number of weeks so I was heading to do Beinn Dorain and its neighbour Beinn an Dothaidh. I don't drive and it was a Sunday service on the train so I opted for the bus from Glasgow instead. The bus stops outside Bridge of Orchy hotel then it’s a five minute walk up the hill and under the train tracks to the start of the walk.
It was a steady climb up a wide stony path. It was around 10am at this point so despite what turned out to be a really hot day, I felt find at this time. It didn’t take long until I reached the ‘junction’ in the walk, the left leading to Beinn an Dothaidh and the right to Beinn Dorain.
Beinn an Dothaidh on the left and Beinn Dorain on the rightI headed for Beinn Dorain first, enjoying listening to Taylor Swift’s new album which had just came out on the Friday
A dog came running towards me to say hello and the owner said “Oh she’s usually really scared of strangers that’s why we have the nervous coat on her” – I didn’t notice that she had a coat saying ‘nervous’ on it – this made my day.
On the way up Beinn DorainIt was slightly longer than I thought it would be to the top – this one is much further away from the fork than Beinn an Dothaidh – however I got there just fine.
After some awkward self-timer photos, I headed back to tackle Dothaidh.
Looking over to Beinn an DothaidhIt was steeper going and a bit boggy at times but I got to the peak a lot quicker. The dog from earlier was headed back towards me – will she stop to say hello again? She did!!
The top of Beinn an DothaidhAnother awkward selfie Looking over to my previously concurred Stob Ghabar and Stob a’Choire OdhairBack down I went, and as I got further down it was much hotter, but I was really enjoying it. It was then an hour’s wait until my bus, but no complaints – I got a can of Coke from the hotel and sat outside in the sun.
