Lockdown tour of Inverness - including some munros!

I've compiled a few photos of Inverness from a route I've done a few times in this brave new world we now live in. Mostly cycled it recently, but I have walked it all, in part over the years. The pictures are from different days and times over the last few weeks

I live near the prison, and I guess I know how they feel in there now.

Onwards past the castle down to the riverside and over the Infirmary Bridge.

From here a bit of doubling back and eventually down by the sea and past the Caley Thistle ground.

I then passed under the Ness Rail Bridge which replaced the viaduct that collapsed in the floods of 1989 not long after a train went over it. The new bridge was open the next year.

I followed the coast from here to the Caley Canal.

A lot of people think the wreck of the titanic is in the atlantic ocean but its actually next to the canal in Inverness

Onward from the canal to the river.

Islands and River Ness

Its a few miles from here up to the UHI college campus on the east side of town. Its an area worth a visit with several munros on show, nesting swans & the Golden Gate Bridge.

From here it's a short cycle home for me or about half an hour walk. So that's it, a limited photo tour of Inverness.

Really enjoyed looking through your photos of Inverness taken over the years (I had completely forgotten about the damage to the rail bridge in 1989).

Before we condemn the two ducks when was the photo taken?????

Suppose I had also forgotten ICT won the cup the year after the mighty Saints................

Cheers Gordie. Apart from the Caley Thistle and the rail bridge photo all others were taken during the lockdown.
Maybe the ducks are from the same household.

So many familiar views Lovely to see Inverness from the walker/cyclist perspective. BTW I noticed you avoided Hilton on your tour

Neither me, nor Kevin lived in Inverness in 1989 when the Ness Rail Bridge collapsed, but I found a few snaps from March 2015 when the river was very high. I remember we crossed Infirmary Bridge and water was nearly up to the walking level:

Cracking pictures BP. It's surprising that the bridge wasn't closed with the water so high. I know the islands are closed now and again due to the river being in spate.
The water can vary so much, a pal of mine once walked across the river fairly easily near where your photos were taken.

That looks quite pleasant, the riverside reminiscent of Dumfries I think. Will we ever get to do the walk though?
