Finally managed to have a day in the local hills on a wee hike - maybe not so wee about 30km round trip and 11hours including stops, but within 5 miles of home. A pleasant walk along the old railway line to Blanefield and up Dunglass an extinct volcanic plug. Then a steep hike up to Dumbreck (508m) followed by a long long slog along the tops of the Campsie Hills to Brown Hill 396m up behind our house. A full day with only sheep, lambs and melodic Skylarks for company plus the occasional hare, grouse and hawk. No paths up there only rough heather, tall cotton grass, deep spongy moss and peat hags, lucky it was dry, it must be almost impassable when wet. Hard going on the legs so I expect them to be complaining tomorrow !!
