Walkhighlands

Did Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan from Camban bothy on 19 Dec 2007. Left bothy at 8:00 am, cold and clear, contoured round to allt gleann gniomhaidh. Lung busting hike up to point 910, left some gear here then 35 minutes to summit. Amazing views in all directions, pin sharp to horizon, sat here for 1 hour, reluctant to leave. Got cramp just before picking gear up, made me realise i was a long way from anywhere. Reached bothy at 3:30 pm. An easy 12 km round trip from the bothy and 900 to 1000 mtrs of ascent. River could be tricky in spate and the ridge between the West top and main summit would be interesting under snow and ice.Camban bothy is weatherproof, but one half of upper floor has no floorboards and is unusable. Also the mice are very active.

Great photo. Wish we got a view like that when climbing it in 2007; it looked like it was going to clear when we got a 'white rainbow' on the summit (as shown in the walk photos), but then it misted up again.

If I'd climbed it in December I don't think I'd have had enough daylight to spend an hour on top, whatever the views!

Orion - know what you mean! I don't do hair (since the mid 80's)... except my beard!
Really must get a set of crampons to fit my KSBs... seeing you perched on the snow made me long for real winter walking again. Been too long.

Thank you for the photos - stunning area and drop dead gorgeous photography... you've a far better eye for composition than I! Digital or print?
'Tis my favourite Glen in all Scotland, and your shots of it all crisp and clear are enough for me too look forward to a cold walk in later in the year. Already been up there five times this year, but only one hillwalk - other trips were canoeing, fishing, walks round the loch and for the Highland Cross).

I switched from traditional photography to digital about 1 year ago, am still trying to get to grips with my digital camera, as me and technology don’t get on

I’d agree Glen Affric is a beautiful glen, especially in the autumn when the trees are turning colour, but it’s the mountain Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan that has an almost mystical hold over me, and i feel drawn back to it time and time again.
