After biking in to Derry Lodge we set off up the east side of Glen Derry for the walk in to the Hutchison Memorial Hut.
We were pretty tired from the previous days exploits so were slow walking in. It was a typical ‘can’t make its mind up’ weather day with a cold wind and occasional showers. Our target was visible early on- Mheadhoin is easy to spot at a distance because of the large cairns on the summit.
A couple of hours later and we were at the hut and started the proper climb. Coire Etchachan is a fairly pleasant climb and it didn’t rain for this portion which was nice.
The next stage was a bit less pleasant- work is ongoing on the path up Mheadhoin so there were a few obstacles to avoid, plus it was raining torrentially and the wind was coming round a bit. By the time we were onto the flatter top we were getting properly blasted. No photos of this bit- it was more a case of getting on with it!
The weather cleared while we were at the top just enough to get a decent view. There is someone on top of the summit cairn that you might be able to make out in the photo below. It was wild up there even if it doesn’t look it!
The way down was pretty undramatic and the sun even came out for our return down Glen Derry. Classic Scottish July day.
