In a parallel (pandemic-free) timeline we'd have been in Strawberry Cottage celebrating with family this weekend, possibly climbing An Socach with some of them today. When we came up with this alternative plan going for Munro Tops, it hadn't occurred to us that this was our first return to these Munros since we climbed them when we got married
6 years ago!
Took a different approach this time, cycling in from Killilan to make a loop past Iron Lodge. Tough going!
Got wet feet going over boggy ground, then caught in the rain as the clouds dropped (at which point we decided not to include Socach today)... but then it cleared to give some views
- Good track in, cycling to Carnach - not too rough and not many steep inclines
- Above the waterfalls we left the track to make for a more direct line up to our first Top
- The clag came and went all along this first ridge with its 4 Tops
- Views opened up over to A' Ghlas Bheinn and Beinn Fhada
- Feature on Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan's West Top
- View from Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan looking to An Socach and Glen Affric beyond... leaving that for another time
- Our ridge back out again
- On our first visit here we'd climbed down to the right after Mullach nan Dheiragain, crossed the river and went back up the next line of 3 Munros - always had fairly big days out here :D
- Our whole route in view from the final Top, our second one on Mullach nan Dheiragain
- Coming off the end of the shoulder, we briefly thought about trying to go straight down to pick up the track out...
- ...instead we took a wider line around to miss all the rocks - view out to Mullardoch
- Still a long track out though! Much relief when we could finally see Iron Lodge, knowing it was only around 2km back to the bikes from there
- Paused to say hello! They'd been on the track this morning, so it was good we weren't disturbing them again :)
- Phew! (taking an average for the ascent)
