There are three good points you can take from the private / forestry commission road to hit the Slacks directly, at the very entrance near the gas plant (goes through a sheep field), at the livestock grid / Gavinburn sign / bins, and a few meters after the final livestock grid (an obvious main track doubles-back right, there's an interesting death scramble going left). More interesting than going up that interminable, draining road.

OpenStreetMap has all the trails (OS does not).

Thanks Marty,
First time I had been up there and took the most obvious route. Its so accesible so I hope to go up there again in the winter.
Cheers for the info.
Paul.
