Climbed this on an overcast day with a 5, 7, 9 and 10 year old (plus two parents). For the most part the kids charged ahead and led the way with the 7 year old (who was only recently over an illness) deciding about 2/3rds up to return to the car with her dad. The other three trooped to the top. It was hard work for them, but some bribery and cajoling, plus the knowledge of how proud they'd be, and they all made it. Completely in the clouds meaning visibility was very poor at the top. Also made it difficult to know exactly when we had reached the summit as could only see the trig point about 30m out. Markers were just about close enough to be able to spot the next one with the poor visibility. Ascent not too difficult for kids who like to scrabble up rock faces, the descent proved slightly more treacherous and difficult as a five year old's legs can't really make the steps so he needed to rely on a mum's hand. Rain on the climb meant the descent was also a lot wetter and boggier, stick to the path or risk sinking quite deep in some places. All that to say, it's possible for younger kids to make the climb, enough easy slopes to rest between the steep and wet start and the steep and slate rock end.
