We parked the car further south (up the hill beyond the Bannock Burn bridge), where there is now a larger layby on either side of the road. The path starts here at the edge of the wood and meets the official path half way along the walk in to the crags climb as it comes up the brae inside the forest.
Apart from that it is very much as described in the walk guide on WH. Do be aware that the path round the loch can be busy with fishermen in season. There was no one around today.
It had been frosty over night with a smir of snow on the hill. Was sunny to start with but clouded over as we approached the dam. Its just a rough path up to the trig point and beyond, but clearly visible. The drop down the crags at the north end is a very good path with stone steps to prevent erosion. Wet patchs from here to the dam.
Very pleasant walk for the time we had available.
- View over reservoir from the trig point on crags.
- A different view of the rock pinnacles further along the crags from the trig point.
- Sadly the clouds came down and the crags were very dim.
