Great honest report, think most of us at sometime on our walks have made errors of a similar nature.
You did the right thing on having a rest and taking your time to have a think and compose yourself.
Sure you have learnt a lot from this mis-adventure.
Put this one down to a character building day. ( get a lot of these in Scotland usually due to the weather).
Always good to get to the top of the hill but its more important you get to the bottom in one piece.
The hill can be visited another day, its not going anywhere.
